Tell us a little bit about you.
I'm Karina, a young woman living in the heart of Europe and a corporate lawyer in one of the biggest companies in the world. I am planning to continue with my studies and I will soon start professional practice as a trainee advocate.
I’m a photo-freak, honestly taking pictures of everything since I can remember. I have been on Instagram since 2012. It’s my place on the web, a personal page that grows with me and my content has changed when I started my career - one day I just decided to show my everyday work outfits. I’m trying to give some advice about what to wear for work and also how to behave in a business setting. I am currently in the process of building my profile because when I first came up with its concept I didn't expect it to be so absorbing.
Let's Talk Business
Tell us more about your journey.
As a student I have been having a lot of interesting experiences such as an exchange in the Netherlands, pro bono work and research groups. I believe that beyond theoretical knowledge, practicing is essential. I would recommend to every young person to try what their daily routine will look like in the future before starting their career. I've also had a lot of internships before graduation and after one of them I got a job offer, so here I am!
I spend hours on research that helps me draft a document. My day job also involves dozens of phone calls and hundreds of emails. I work in the litigation department, so I deal mainly with procedural law, which means drafting pleadings, exchanging arguments with the opponent and maintaining contact with the court. My favorite part of my daily routine is lunch with co-workers or friends. I love this short break because it keeps me energized for the rest of the day.
What is the one thing you believe has helped you succeed and what advice would you give to someone wanting to do the same job?
I believe that the key is to focus on what we want to reach. Sometimes you have to take two steps back to make one huge step forward! Or maybe the aim is not the priority, but the road itself? Who knows? Anyway, being enthusiastic about the future will certainly contribute to our well-being. Advice for someone who would like to work as I do - be patient and humble, life is about learning.
Every success makes me more confident, but of course you can't be successful all the time. You have to learn how to talk to yourself well, boast, and listen to your body. I am inspired by beautiful, wise and enterprising women, for whom I am here on Instagram.
What is one book you'd suggest people read?
I used to read a lot of motivational books and after a while they stopped talking to me. I use some of the techniques on a daily basis, but this repetitiveness started to bother me. I recommend the book "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy - it's never going to get old. I think it's a must-read for everyone, the mind is our greatest strength.
How would you describe your business style?
Female elegance. I prefer classic dresses and skirts. I love when clothes emphasize that I'm a professional but still an attractive woman. Though I have to admit that from time to time I feel really good in a man's suit and man-style shoes.
What advice would you give those dressing for a new job?
Classics will always work best. Get dressed for your new job in such a way that you can still feel like yourself and make sure that your clothes do not limit your mobility.
